Wedding Ceremony May Be Away From Bride's City or Country

Wedding Ceremony May Be Away From Bride's City or Country

The wedding venue can also be away from the bride's place to a mutually agreed location by the two families if they are living cities or seas apart. It makes it easier for both the families, particularly the groom's, to travel less with the baraat.

I remember this happened in our family too when we lived in Kanpur, Utter pardesh, and the groom's family lived in Jullunder, Punjab. The groom's family had travelled and seen my sister, daughter of a high bank officer. They liked my sister and our family values so they made a marriage proposal and hoped that our family would quickly accept the engagement. The groom belonged to a very prosperous family, who had made money from oil in the Middle East. As the marriage date approached nearer, they requested us to shift the marriage venue to New Delhi which was somewhat half way for both the families. We accepted and the new location turned out to be better for us because all our relations were living in that part of India. My father hired two big bungalows near Parliament Street, one for our family and the other one for the groom and party. All the baraat members were supplied beds and the wedding ceremony lasted for over two days.

Sometimes families living in different countries choose to hold the wedding ceremony in India. Both sides travel to their ancestral places in India where most of their relatives reside. For instance, many families living abroad such as in London or New York have gone to India to hold the marriage ceremony to keep cultural values alive. It also makes the younger generation more aware of the Indian cultural values where one of the most ancient civilisations flourished.
